Horai Fossa is a fossa — a long, narrow depression — on Ryugu, 0.3 km across, centred at 32.1° N, 63.4° W. It is the 4th largest named feature on Ryugu and the 2nd largest of its class there.

Where the name comes from

Mythical Mount Horai (Penglai in Chinese), paradise of the immortals; in some versions of the Japanese fairy tale about fisherman Urashima is located in the sea on the shell of tortoise that princess Otohime has turned into. The International Astronomical Union approved the name in 2018, under the theme it applies to every fossa on Ryugu.
