Pavonis Chasma is a chasma — a deep, steep-sided canyon — on Mars, 45.9 km across, centred at 2.7° N, 111.0° W in the Tharsis quadrangle. It is the 971st largest named feature on Mars and the 25th largest of its class there.
Where the name comes from
Albedo name. The International Astronomical Union approved the name in 1991, under the theme it applies to every chasma on Mars. Of the 25 features of this class catalogued on Mars, the naming categories run Greek (13), Latin (12).
What it would take to settle Pavonis Chasma
