Rimae Maestlin is a rima — a fissure — a collapsed lava channel or a crack in the crust — on The Moon, 71 km across, centred at 2.9° N, 40.5° W in the Kepler quadrangle. It is the 649th largest named feature on The Moon and the 67th largest of its class there.
Where the name comes from
Named from nearby crater. The International Astronomical Union approved the name in 1985, under the theme it applies to every rima on The Moon. Of the 112 features of this class catalogued on The Moon, the naming categories run Germany (19), France (19), Greek (17), Italy (12).
