Tyrrhena Terra is a terra — an extensive landmass — on Mars, 2,470 km across, centred at 11.9° S, 88.8° E in the Iapygia quadrangle. It is the 17th largest named feature on Mars and the 9th largest of its class there.
Where the name comes from
Classical albedo feature name. The International Astronomical Union approved the name in 1979, under the theme it applies to every terra on Mars. Of the 11 features of this class catalogued on Mars, the naming categories run Greek (6), Latin (5).
