What Dagda is
Dagda is a crater — a circular depression, almost always an impact scar — on Europa, 9.8 km across, centred at 37.4° N, 168.7° W. It is the 109th largest named feature on Europa and the 21st largest of its class there.
Where the name comes from
One of the chief deities of the Tuatha de Danann in Irish mythology. The International Astronomical Union approved the name in 2006, under the theme it applies to every crater on Europa. Of the 41 features of this class catalogued on Europa, the naming categories run Celtic (30), Ireland (10), Greek (1).
