What Lacus Spei is
Lacus Spei is a lacus — a small dark plain — on The Moon, 76.7 km across, centred at 43.5° N, 65.2° E in the Gauss quadrangle. It is the 587th largest named feature on The Moon and the 16th largest of its class there.
Where the name comes from
"Lake of Hope." The International Astronomical Union approved the name in 1976, under the theme it applies to every lacus on The Moon.
What it would take to settle Lacus Spei
The Moon scores 29.1 as a world. That number is the same for every square metre of it — but sunlight, water, radiation and the ground under your feet are not. This is the same question asked at 43.5° N, 65.2° E.
